Laramie County Resources

Laramie County Typical Growing Conditions

  • Average growing season of 100 days or less (last average frost date is May 20th; first average frost date is September 25th) -- most Master Gardeners start planting outside around Memorial Day

  • High Altitude, Dry, and Windy Location -- average annual precipitation of 13-15 inches (recommend soaker hoses or drip solutions due to windy conditions)

  • Alkaline soil (average pH of 7.5) -- recommend not adding lime or wood ash to our soil as these will raise the pH and most vegetables prefer a more neutral-to-acidic pH

  • USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5, however we recommend selecting Zone 4 to 3 plantings, especially in rural areas of the county -- our blog article explains why we give this recommendation
